RAPHaEL: Robotic Air-Powered Hand with Elastic Ligaments

DescriptionProducts Used

RAPHaEL

The Robotic Air Powered Hand with Elastic Ligaments, RAPHaEL, is a compliant hand designed to preform everyday human tasks. The inherent compliance of its corrugated tubing based pneumatic actuators allows the hand to grasp heavy, odd-shaped, and delicate objects without complex control algorithms. This versatility, combined with the low weight and component cost, makes RAPHaEL a step in the right direction towards more capable robots that interact  human environment. RAPHaEL was created by a team of four undergraduate students in the Robotics and Mechanisms Lab, RoMeLa, at Virgina Tech.
