Read data using google spreadsheet data API

Hi!

I need to read data from google spreadsheets in labview using google spreadsheet data API. I want to have the content of each sheet in the workbook

I found in one this forum discussion https://forums.ni.com/t5/Example-Programs/Google-Spreadsheets-Data-API-Read/tac-p/3785672#M8398

the solution attached below.

My problem is although I Entered all the information (username, password, book and sheet names ), when i run the VI, I get nothing in return and it always crashes with " exception error",

Does anyone know how to make it work ? or does any one have a working VI or an idea about how to read data out of google spreadsheets ?

A crash? Or an error? What kind of crash? LabVIEW? Windows? BSoD?

It might help if you post the exact error message. "Exception error" is the least interesting bit.

OT: That library would be so much better if it was a class. It's made like a class, but with a cluster. Could be made before OO was possible, but still. It's just self inflicted torture...

How is that related to LabVIEW?

I though you where trying to connect from LabVIEW.

404 almost universally means page not found. Google "spreadsheet sample app error 404", second hit: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/37148664/urlfetch-getting-404-error-from-spreadsheet-url might help.

Hi!

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Now I'm trying to run the VI attached below, in labview, in order to read data from google spreadsheet , I want to get data that are in sheets but nothing was returned. the problem exists in " initialize.VI " , I got error code "1386" ( constructor node in initialize.vi).

Does anyone have an idea about how to solve this please?

Could you post the entire error? Including the entire string? Usually, that's where it gets interesting.

If both LV and the example exe give an error (the same error), I think there must be something wrong with your input.

There's not a hole lot to find about GDataGAuthRequestFactory, except that it seems the be obsolete. You might try account type "GOOGLE_OR_HOSTED". Not sure why "service" and\or spreadsheetService are empty strings. Does not make much sense (but I'm no expert).

I have just tested the "Google Spread Sheet Read 2012 NIVerified.zip ‏169 KB" file you posted, I get the same error.

To fix this I downloaded the Google Data API v2.2.0.0 found HERE. Once you have downloaded this make sure you restart the computer.

When starting the Vi you may be asked to locate a missing file for the Vi; for example it asked me to locate the

Google.GData.Spreadsheets.dll

This can be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Data API SDK\Redist.

Once you have followed the steps, insert your Google User Name and Password and it should work. This worked for me. Hope this helps.

I did exactly like you did, and this time when i run the VI , i found error code 1172, in GetBookList.vi below

Did you know please the source of this error and how to run the VI and get the final result ( data sheet)?

Hi!

Does any one please have an idea about how to resolve this error, I found error 1 linked to invoke node in Query.VI. ( see the screeshot below) I know that when having this error, it means that there is an invalid input parameter. however, I checked and there is no unallowed imput !

please could you check the Query VI with me to find where is the error?

There is nothing for us to check! We can't put probes on images, and all the inputs seem to be set outside this VI.

I'd think the problem lays in another VI (GetBooks.vi maybe?), as Query.vi is just a generic sub VI (don't shoot the messenger: Query.vi is just where the error is reported).

Pretty sure that code is just the example code. It has nothing specific for your application. As the problem is in your application, there is not much we can do... This code has been used before, so the problem is in how you use it. Without telling us how you use it, it will be hard for us to say anything about the problem.

In fact, I aim to read data from .XLSX files into LabVIEW, I want to have the content of each sheet in an array.

((Microsoft excel is not installed in the target PC ( so Active X and 3rd part XLR8 are eliminated ) , i don't want also to pass through conversion to other types of file (such as .CSV or XML)))

So the only workaround solution that i've found is to use google spreadsheets data API.net.

I found the example, that i attached previously, in one of the forum discussions, developped by a LV user. After Installinf the .NET Google Data API, we should authenticate to Google Doc account by entring username and password, then enter book name and sheet name to get the data in each spreadsheet. I entred all the information but I always get nothing in return.

So, how can I make this code useful following my need? as it's the ultimate solution for me after too many trials done on this code, (especillay that the other manners suggested above are not applicable in my case)

So you want to read a locally stored *.xlsx file (Microsoft Excel type) and you do not have installed Microsoft Excel.

Then you try to use a online cloud service (Google) to read the file?

Are the file uploaded to Google Sheet for the given account that you have entered in the API?

It's a mystery to me too...

I've looked for this a few times myself, and I never even saw Google spreadsheet API being mentioned. Pdiazam's Google must be different then mine...

Yes I want to read *.xlsx file, without having Microsoft Excel installed, and the file is already existing as a google spreadsheet in the account that I entred in the API,

For thesuggestion of Open source ExcelLibrary, I download it and I found a code example here :"https://stackoverflow.com/questions/151005/create-excel-xls-and-xlsx-file-from-c-sharp". But didn't fully understand how to proceed with these code lines ! Could anyone please explain to me more what shall i do to import data from the .xlsx file into labview using C !

I know I pointed to the thread, but ExcelLibrary seems to be a bit old. Newer formats might not be supported.
