I initially thought of it being a case of VIs saved without their diagrams as an application distribution, but that isn't the case with a number of the VIs in the folder, as many do open just fine and you can see the block diagram. Perhaps it was a partial one? Maybe, but I'm know that when you try to open some of the VIs you get "The file <name> is not a VI. Select another?", and these are the ones that look all screwy in the hex editor.

I have a machine that is down and I need to look at the source code. It was written in LabVIEW 5.0 and when I try to open a vi, it acts like it doesn't exist and looks for the vi. The company that wrote the code is no longer in business. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Using LabVIEW 7.1 I was unable to open many of the files. I looked at the files with a hex editor and it looks like the header information is missing from those files, so it looks like they've been corrupted. If it's absolutely necessary NI may be able to recover the files for you.

As an aside, I found looking at this code to be quite... amusing. The programming is not good, so you may be better off starting from scratch.

Message Edited by smercurio_fc on 02-08-2006 01:03 PM

Agreed.

Either that or they were saved without the dagram.

I would have expetected to see something like "BDHP" or "FPHP" if these were good files.

If they were saved without the diagrams, they would still open in 5.1. Does anyone have 5.1 installed that could try it? I don't have anything older than 6i and only 7.1.1 and 8.0 installed at the moment.

At least then we would know for sure.

Hope that this helps,
Bob Young

The stuff from vi.lib looks OK.

Sorry but my LV 5.1 machine will take some work to get it turned back on. If it was LV 5.0, I'd have to go to my distribution disks and find a new machine to install it on.

I suspect an "Application distrubtion" is what we are looking at.

Yes, but that file still has a header, and some of the VIs in the zip file that the original poster provided did not seem to have one.
