This may be a daft question 🐵 As well as slightly off topic :o))

Can I plug one of NI's PXI E Series daqs into a normal PC, not one of their
chassis, and access the daq solely through MS Visual Studio C++?

A PXI card will only fir into a PXI or Compact PCI chassis. If you get a E Series PCI card, you can use the NI-DAQ api with C++.

Cheers for the reply, I just realised my mistake with the PXI version and
was just about to ask if you could get a PCI version!

Will I have access to all the cards features through C++ / NI-DAQ?

Tim,

You will have full access to the card features using C++ NIDAQ calls. In the past, all calls to the cards were written in C++ and wrapped in a LabVIEW Sub VI. I believe this to still be true, so you should have at least the same access as the LabVIEW DAQ Calls give you, and likely more.
