Hey, sorry and thank you so much for your perseverance. Hm....I just did this recently (two days ago) on a new machine. All I did was install the program and it automatically puts the dlls in C:\Program Files folder, except for deplevaldll.dll. Then I register all the dlls (ADIEvalInt.dll, deplevaldll.dll, DEPLEvalTools.dll, SAX2.DLL, and DEPLDevDriver.dll) except for Drvx40.dll and the Dxusb10.dll that you need to copy and put in windows/system32 folder. When I installed the program two days ago, they were already in the system folder without me copying them. It works for me. I am a coop here and today is my last day, but I wil
l be back in January to troubleshoot this problem. So if you come up with the solution, can you try and email me at NCAnn83@aol.com? Thanks.
Hi,

I get the following error when I try to run my .exe files. "some program.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I noticed in one exe, I get this problem after I successfully ran the application, then close the application and the error message will pop up. On two other applications, this error appears when the exe just started running. If I just run the vi's of these application, I get no problem at all, but I need for the executable program to work though. Help, please!

Thanks.
Hi analog,

If you are closing the application by using the "X" button at the top right corner, you are probably getting this error because your application is not cleaning itself up correctly. You shouldn't be closing the app with that X. Rather, have a Stop button or Exit button to quit the application. This way, it gives the app the opportunity to clean up memory space it used and deallocate as necessary. I have a feeling that your error may be related to this.

Jeremy L.
National Instruments
Hi,
I have narrowed my program down and found that this error is generated when I tried to call a dll. I have included the dll and some code. I have use this code with windows 2000 before and with this dll and everything is hunky dory, but now that I put Windows XP OS on my computer, the exe is the only thing causing a problem, the VI is still working fine. I have another exe file which I created to parse an xml file and that exe doesn't give me any error upon closing, so I am thinking that the dll is a problem. If anyone has windows 2000, can you use my code to build an exe and then post it here so maybe I can test to see if there is any difference? Thanks. http://exchange.ni.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=101&RPAGEID=137&HOID=506500000005000000
2CA80100&HIsQuestionPoster=Yes&HTHREAD=000108588&UCATEGORY_0=_49_%24_6_&UCATEGORY_S=0
I still don't understand your Stop button or Exit button concept though. My program stops completely and you can re-run it with the RUN button at the top, doesn't that mean that the program has stopped? I don't understand how I would implement this STOP button idea without using another loop outside or an event structure. But either way, it would seem like extra unneccesary code, right?
Yes, pressing the X button stops the program and you can rerun it, but doing that doesn't necessarily mean it cleans up all of the memory allocation that it did. By using a stop button (which would be just a large while loop around your whole block diagram), you allow labview time to deallocate memory it used for this application, rather than having a forced sudden stop. also, your dll may be doing some allocation of memory so that when you close your program, that memory the dll accessed may not have been deallocated as well.

Jeremy L.
National Instruments
Has anything changed other than the OS? Do you have everything for the program that that was installed on Win2000 installed on WinXP? Is there any differences in software when you upgraded? Did you do a fresh install of XP, or did you overwrite the existing 2000 OS? Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to know some more about your system since hypothetically that change affected the program.

Jeremy L.
National Instruments
Have you tried using any other application to call the dll and see if the same error pops up? Then we can really narrow the issue down to the dll if it happens with any other app that calls it. It seems as though you've done a pretty good debugging job on it though, outside of accessing the actual code of the dll. I would like to see if the DLL just doesn't like to run on an XP machine or if it is trying to access anything that is specific to 2000.

Jeremy L.
National Instruments
You wouldn't be now using the "stop button" on the LabVIEW Tool-bar would you? This is basically the same as "x"-ing the program.

Shane.
No, I am not talking about the "stop button" on the tool bar.
Hi,

I registered your 3 dlls (SAX2.dll, deplevaldll.dll, and depldevdriver.dll) using the registration utility you linked to on my XP machine. Then I ran test.exe, as well as test.vi, but both came up with errors. The errors i received were:

Run time error 91:
Object variable or With block variable not set

and

Run time error 440:
Automation error

Are these the errors you were getting?

Jeremy L.
National Instruments
No. I got this error when I close the exe "test.exe has encountered an error and needs to close." You might need to copy these two dll as well into the windows directory or the directory that you are running the VI. Thanks for trying 😛
Hi,

I still keep getting the same error and cannot run the app. I have registered deplevaldll.dll, depldevdriver.dll, and sax2.dll using the reg utility, and then copied dxusb10.dll and drvx40.dll to my system32 directory, as well has kept a copy in the same directory as the executable. No luck. Is there any other file that I need to run? Thanks!

Jeremy L.
National Instruments
You will also need to register this dll, sorry I forgot to include it. But it might be easier for you to just go on the website and download the exe, that should put all the dll in for you except for deplevaldll.dll, so make sure you make a copy of it then place it in the installation folder, and register it. But I have attached the other dll that you need. And the link for the setup.exe in case you just want to install the program is http://www.analog.com/Analog_Root/productPage/productHome/0,2121,generic%253DAD9882%2526level4%253D%25252D1%2526Language%253DEnglish%2526level1%253D117%2526level2%253D%25252D1%2526level3%253D%25252D1%2526metaId%2
53D1098%2526resourceWebLawID%253D356,00.html click on "AD988x Evaluation Tools Software Program". But then you will still need to register the dll and copy the other two dll's into the window's directory if you decide to do installation. Thanks again for trying.
