Back in my Radio Shack days, I was cleaning stuff up before opening. I walked by the computer display and my pants got caught and ripped all the way off. Packing tape and a quick trip to Kohl's fixed my problem.

Back in college, I used to take the bus a lot -- to school, to my internship, to my waitressing job, etc.

One not-so-fine morning I boarded the bus to go to school. I sat down on the seat and rrrrrrriiiiiip! The denim cutoffs I was wearing ripped right across the butt. All. The. Way. Across. Both. Cheeks.

Nice.

Fortunately I was wearing a pair of opaque tights underneath. (I had changed my major from Theater to Electrical Engineering a few months previously and still dressed like a theater major.)

I was going to tell you to "hang in there" but I thought better of it. You might be better off hanging out instead.

Do electrical engineers really dress better than theater majors? I'm not so sure about this one. Furthermore, maybe this was the beginning of the ripped shorts and tights style. Didn't 80's groupies wear these sorts of things? (disclaimer: I do not know your age, I am simply using a time period as a reference )

EE majors don't dress better than theater majors...but they do dress differently!

And you're not too far off on the time period...this was in the 90's.

Oh, and if you're going to repair your pants using a stapler, I recommend you proceed with some caution.

I was going to suggest duct tape on the inside of the jeans, and holding the tear closed. But buying new jeans is a solution to wearing ripped jeans too.

Real EE's use a soldering iron! It's like sewing with wire. Add some heat shrink and a heat gun for good measure.

I suppose sitting on an icepack in the Burns Unit is a pretty good way of getting out of wearing ripped trousers!

If you're bad at soldering, there are 3 bonuses: Learning from negative reinforcement, a few days off work, and giving the doctor a funny story to tell.

But while on the topic of ... While cleaning my SKS last night, a rag saturated with some argressive solvert dropped into my lap. Soon I noticed a sensation that brough back memories of an over-filled Zippo lighter in my pocket. It did not take me long to put the pieces together and the next thing you know I was doing a "ventaltaion dance".

All is well since the dance worked.

All jokes involving "Ballroom dancing" are of course fair game now.

Well, just last week I did try fixing a button on my pants using a soldering iron while I was wearing them. True story.

Although, I should probably point out that the button itself wasn't on the pants at the time. And it didn't work.
