What's the meaning of this!!! (your user icon)

Okay, it is killing me. I simply must know why everyone picked their icons. Some of you have had discussions about them in random posts, but that is very hard to find.

Ben, Why the teddy bear with the sparkle?

Tst, are you thinking what I'm thinking? (yes brain, but where are we gonna find a all night tatoo parler on this side of town?)

I'll go first, I drew my monitor with the LabVIEW 8.x style splash screen.... not very creative, but when you stare at it for 8 hours a day it kinda gets embedded.

I can explain the sparkle 🙂

My icon is simple and has some resemblance to me, but I changed it to an animated GIF and added a sparkle. Just for kicks and to keep it distinct form other users that use the same icon.

There is an old thread where we were talking about icon animations and everybody was trying to mock me by adding a sparkle to their icon. Some of those have survived, e.g. ben. 🙂

It would be kind of hard for me to explain, since I have an annoying tendency of changing avatars once in a while (basically just whatever pops into my mind), but you can find some icons here.

My avatar:

is called 'kierewiet' or 'NutCase' it features in the dutch comic 'stamgasten' which is about a pub. My character has lost all contact with reality and concludes every album with the line:
'I like the next album better'. His normal repsonse to a typical question like 'What time is it?' would be 'Go straight ahead and take the second left'.

Kierewiet is quite popular among students.
I try to keep my avatar constant (unlike tst) and the same in different LV user communties.

I worked up a new target for the shooting range one day and noticed that all the colors were a bit NI'ish and it had circles. Much like the way my mind works.

Made an icon out of it and one impulse later it was my icon. Now if I could just put a sparkle in the bullseye.

You must be using LabVIEW 8.0! 😮

Sure, the loading time with 8.0 is a bit slower than with other versions, but I still I think an 8 hour splash screen is a bit excessive. 😄

(Could it be that your palettes are located on a server in inner Mongolia? ;))

I didn't think it looked right with the verticle/horizontal sparkle, so i did it diagonal...

Diagonal is a great idea. How about a slight pan for that extra dynamic effect. 😄

(I also think it is important to keep a long delay on the first frame to increase the surprise and make it less distracting. :))

One thing should be done. Post an image that is 36x26 pixels. Since your current icon had a raw size of 32x32, there is some scaling artefact in frame #0 of my animated version when displayed in the left forum column. Seems the forum page scales undersized icons and does not seem to do a good job with animated, undersized gifs.

Sunshine! I love sunshine. I hate rain and clouds, even though they are very necessary. That is why I live in AZ. I took a basic sunshine icon and animated it using a gif tool.

I had Homer for a while.. Dil is actually the nickname we gave to a buddy. He's a sw freak. Should be his icon 😄

When the NI-Discusion forums got convert into Forums.ni we were given the chance to choose an icon. My first instrinct was to go for the waiter icon because I felt I was serveing the comunity.

My wife thought that was too boring and since I needed her approval to "waste" so much time on the forums, I let her choose the icon.

Well when she the spotted the teddy bear (she calls me Fuzz Bear because I do not like shaving) there was no truning back. I think she was attempting to shame me out of posting answers. She was wrong.

So I lived with it for a while and then in one of the lod leader board threads we were talking about good and evil. I declared the evil person that I was most familiar with was ME. So after a brief tour of the OT with tst providing translations services, he (tst) editied my icon and posted it for me.

Over the years it has grown on me and serves as a constant reminder.

It has gotten many interesting comments over the years. My wife liked "You are as quit as your avatar." And then there was also the "Benny and Bunny" thread on LAVA.
