Cray's used to off-load all polling to front end processors. I know this because I used to service the front-ends. Ours used t be orange. Why orange? The color of the Cray used to be an option. When confronted by this Q, the laed manager left it up to his wife and she liked orange. The rest of thought is was ugly (fast but ugly).
