Problems converting Actor Framework to PPL in mature application

Thanks for the suggestion, Sam. If Stefan's route doesn't work I'll give that a try.

Mike,

I somehow missed this thread. Unfortunately I've got victimized by the same bug back in 2017. It got assigned CAR #688441. Please see my bug report attached.

I've been testing the same feature yesterday and today (LV2019 SP1 and LV2020 Beta2) - "Replace with PPL" functionality is still badly broken in both, but is manifesting itself in a different way than you and I saw before.

There is also a couple dedicated threads on the Champions forum:

1) 2018: https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Champion-Discussions/Update-on-CAR-688441-Status-was-quot-Replace-w...

2) 2017: https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Champion-Discussions/quot-Replace-with-a-Packed-Library-quot-Tool-I...

Not sure you can get access to those though ... I just pinged LV R&D as to the status of this CAR - will post an update after getting a meaningful reply (if any).

Cheers,

Dmitry

Dmitry, we plebs cannot access the LV Champions forum 😉

I take it that you haven't received an update in the almost 2 years since you posted here? I looked in LV2020 known issues and bug fixes and didn't see this CAR in either. Googling it just returns this thread. As someone who's considering refactoring an app to use a handful of PPL's, it'll be nice if this tool works 🙂

Bert,

I do not recall getting any responses from LV R&D, but that was long time ago - so I might be wrong. And I did not test for "Replace with PPL" functionality since then as I was hoping for a better solution in upcoming NXG and did not want wasting any more of my time on PPLs.

Personally - these days I steer clear of using PPLs since they create problems I can't anticipate. I sometimes use a PPL-packaged version of my reuse library - but do it with a clear understanding that there won't be a reliable way converting project source code to a non-PPL version of that library and vice versa ...
