CAN drivers for Linux?

Hello,

I may be purchasing a CAN interface card soon, and I am wondering if the NI-CAN cards have Linux drivers available (by NI or third party.) If no drivers are available, are the specs available to develop our own drivers?

Is it possible to use the National Instruments PCI CAN cards in Linux? Our test stations here will all be migrating to Linux within the next year or so, so we will need products that have Linux support.

Thanks,

John Voltz

Hi,

The boards driver does only support Windows right now, but we have a Driver Developer Kit, which allows you to create your own Linux Driver. The DDK brings some ready to run Linux Examples . But you have to request this DDK from your local Sales representative. If you have allready ordered a board , ask the same contact for the DDK.

2 other ideas for you,

look at the comedi library  www.comedi.org there are a lot of linux drivers there.

There is some old code, a person in Berlin started a CAN4linux library, it has since been forked, but many companies have made enhancements.

Hope this helps
