Hi guys, I'm new to Labview and CAN.
I'm trying to use NI-9862 to acquire signals from Racelogic VBOX (e.g. velocity, acceleration, etc..)
I have coded XNET session in Labview and already uploaded the database provided from Racelogic.
I have tested the CAN module and the chassis.
When I run Labview, the graph indicates a straight line which have a value of 0.
What did I do wrong? Please help. sad:
Thanks in advance:smiley

will the VBOX send out CAN frames/signals without any external stimulation?
if so you first should verify your setup using MAX (NI Measurement and Automation Explorer)
launch MAx
select your cDAQ chassis and XNET device
launch the NI XNET BusMonitor on your 9862 interface
check the VBOX baudrate, termination, external power for the 9862 CAN transceiver

Thanks Gibson for your reply.
I have checked my hardware on MAX and everything works fine but for the BusMonitor, it just appears nothing when I click run.
And btw, what do you mean by external simulation from the VBOX? (Sorry, English is not my first language) I'm feeling may be this one is the key to solve my problem. If you are talking about the channels configuration, I have downloaded the database file from Racelogic website and uploaded via the XNET Database Editor.
Also, I have also checked the signal which produces from CAN_H and CAN_L wires by using a multimeter and it shows that the VBOX is producing signals out. (i.e. the voltage runs from 0-some value, which implies digital values 0-1 of CAN signal).
I have attached my block diagram for more information as well.
Thanks in advance!

lets stay in MAX / BusMonitor first. As long as this does not work you have a different problem ...
1. do you have terminated CAN cable?
2. do you have connected external power on your 9862?
3. what is the Baudrate of your VBOX?

Hi Thanks again Gibson
I'm using the cable which came with the VBOX (one end connected to the 9pins of the 9862 and the other end connected to the VBOX).
Is the terminated cable you mentioned the one that has 120ohm at the end of the cable? Do I need one of these?
And do I need to connect the 9862 to the breakout box?
I have an external power connected to my 9862 from VBOX, so that should not be a problem.
For the Baudrate, I found 500kb/s mentioned somewhere in the VBOX manual but I may be wrong, please clarify how I should find the exact value.
Again, thank you very much for your time.

Hi All,
Was this ever solved? I have the exact same issue. LV14, XNET 14.1, VBOX 3i @ 500K
The sniffer in MAX throws an error for the acquisition rate and I suspect there is something NI does not like about the DBC. I can see the mesages and signals being output using CANalyzer.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Nick,
Yes, I managed to get it working. However, it's been 3 years since I did the project so I cannot give you anything in detail at the moment. I do have a copy of the report that I wrote for the project which may be useful to you. PM me if you want a copy.
