Connect Compact Rio with Vector CANape

Hello Everybody,

we have the following problem: Our hydraulic-testbench is controlled with CompactRio9014 and LabVIEW. The computer is used for setpoint selection and graphical visualization, while data acquisition and control stuff is done by the real-time system and the FPGA on the CompactRio. Now it would be very helpful, to have this data available in CANape, too. We could provide our measurement data synchronized in time with the DUT-data as one file to our colleagues. (I know that LabVIEW could easily do this task alone, but half of our company works with LabVIEW, the other half with CANape -> I need a solution to connect both)

CANape offers support for the NI DAQmx-Driver, but I don't get it working with the CompactRio...I searched the NI-FAQ and found out, that the 9014 is not compatible with DAQmx...

Can somebody tell me, if this is correct or if a workaround exists? Would a hardware change to the CRio 904x-Series solve this issue? Does anybody have a similar constellation working?

Thank you in advance!

Best Regards

Daniel

In general CompactRIO chassis don't support the use of DAQmx as you have discovered. The cRIO-904x series is an effort to combine the two families so that the DAQmx driver can be used in parallel to FPGA programming in cRIO.

Can you provide information about the specific modules you intend to use? If so, I can check to see how we expect them to behave in a 904x.

Hello Jeff,

thanks for your reply, and sorry for my late answer, I was out of office last week... I would like to use the modules NI-9201 (voltage input) and NI-9862 (CAN Input). For me it is important that it is possible to make 10 to 15 results of calculations done on the FPGA/Real-Time-level available over LAN via the DAQmx-Driver.

Thanks in advance

Daniel
