NI-CAN port to port example on RT target

I am attempting to use a NI PXI-8461/2 Series 2 card in my NI PXI-1045 real-time controller. I am using the 'Single Sample Periodic Output' and 'Single Sample Input' VIs. I am getting an error: "The interface is transmitting frames, but no device is receiving". The version of NI-CAN on my computer and the RT target is 2.6.2. Both ports have been set to the same speed in MAX, and the channels have been setup correctly. I have connected both ports using a female-to-female DB9 serial cable (2 m long). Is this the right type of cable? The ports are currently on highspeed, I can't figure out how to set them to low in the MAX configuration window (it does not allow editing). Thanks

Problem solved.

It was the cable - it must've been a crossover cable.
