USB CAN device

We have a customer that is requiring a 2 port USB CAN device. Since NI does not make one, can anybody make a recommendation for one that plays nice with LabVIEW.

Thanks
Ed

Hello,

By plays nice with LabVIEW do you mean has an already written LabVIEW driver for the product? If so, unfortunately I do not have any suggestions; I realize you are likely quite familiar with using dlls in LabVIEW. You may try contacting the manufacturers of candidate devices, as they may have implemented such conveniences for some of their products.

Please repost if you find anything; I'll be sure to do the same!

Thank you,

JLS

The company we decided to go with is Kvaser.

They have a USB device with some nice features that the customer thought might be useful. The we picked has a SD/MMC memory card slot, so it can act as a stand alone CAN logger or a regular CAN device.

They also provide LabVIEW and DIAdem drivers, so at least we won't have to start from scratch.

I'll post an update after we get one and see how it works.

Hello Ed,

That would be great; I'm interested in hearing what you think about the LabVIEW driver for another CAN product!

Thank you,

Ed prodded me to post something so here it goes.

A colleague and I were the ones who used the Kvaser Memorator to create an application that simulated a CAN device. It worked well and as far as I can recall, we didn't have problems with the Kvaser supplied driver VIs. While there were some limitations, for our application it worked well.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Hope that this helps,
Bob
