VISA Remote Server access to NI-CAN8464

Hello,
I am developing IVI aplication for NI-CAN Frame API,
Since I have NI-CAN PXI 8464 card in my lab PXI chassis I'd like to access it remotely over network
from my office computer on the layer of VISA resource ( As far as I know it uses VISA as I/O)
When I setup remote system in MAX it works but I only see resource for backplane.. thats it,
even in PXi there are NIDMM  and CAN cards. I setup permissions as well. There is nothing more to setup for VISA
server, could you please tell me what is wrong ?
Thank you.
(I found network remote access via  resource descriptor vey usefull for developing aplication,
 it is the same enviroment what will be for target aplication, I don't want network variables or
datasocket, that is different level) Can I use RDA for this ?
Your help is appriciated and traded for my help if possible :-]

Hey Radek,

Can you post a little more information about the problem you are seeing?  In your post you said you "only see resource for backplan", what do you mean by this?  Also, are you using Labview real time Operating System?

Thanks,

In MAX, in Remote Systems -> 165.195.255.28 -> Devices and Interfaces ->

 PXI System (remote lab comp) :
- visa://165.195.255.28/PXI0::1::BACKPLANE
- visa://165.195.255.28/PXI0::MEMACC

Serial&Parallel
- visa://165.195.255.28/ASRL1::INSTR
- visa://165.195.255.28/ASRL3::INSTR

I only see BACKPLANE (PXI chassis) resource for PXI, even there is PXI CAN card 8464 that uses VISA,
which I would like to access remotely.
Is remote access supported for all cards using VISA or just for some of them ?
What about PXI NI-CAN 8464 ?
Thank you,
Radek

Hello Radek.

Can you please tell us what chassis you have and what controller you have in your chassis.  Also, what OS are you running on the controller?  Are you using LabVIEW Real Time on the controller or just Windows?  Also, are you able to see any devices on your remote system?  In other words, do you have devices other than the 8464 that you can see on your remote system?

A screenshot of the remote system in MAX, with all directories fully expanded, would go a long way in explaining exactly what you are seeing since this issue seems to be fairly involved.

Let us know and we will be happy to help you further!

Hi everybody,
I've being struggling with the issue described in this thread for days and I hope someone has already found a solution.

Below my setup:

-PXI System:
 -NI PXI-1045
 -OS: Windows XP
 -PXI Card: NI 8464
 -NI-VISA Server is running
-Laptop connected via Ethernet to Chassis:
 -OS:Windows 7
 -Labview 2014

Attached images show entire system setup.

As you can see I'm able to see, in remote system, all pxi devices installed on the chassis
but every time I try to send a VISA "*IDN?" query I get always the following error:

VISA: (HEX 0xBFFF0067) the given session or object reference does not support this operation

Can you give me a help, please?

Thanks in advance
