"Windows Power Management" causes NI-CAN driver to fail

NI-CAN 2.0 If power management features are enabled on XP (and presumably other Windows OS's) the bus will report a conflict of resources when a self test is performed after bringing up the system from hybernation or standby. The driver and hardware do not seem to meet OnNow/ACPI Requirements - I thought that this was needed for the Windows logo, and what about CE ?

Currently we are shipping DELL Optiplex PC's and disabling power management,

Hi,

At the moment the CAN interfaces cannot recover from an OS standby. It is a combination of the hardware characteristics (the firmware is store in volatile memory) and of the driver arquitecture.

I'm not too familiar with the details of the specifications of the Windows Logo.

Regarding the CE compliance, I believe it mainly regulates electromagnectic emmissions, for example:

When will this be fixed?
Other NI cards can handle an OS standby, why is CAN different?

When will my question from 4/16/2003 be answered? This is not the kind of support that we expected from National Instruments.

Our company directive is to minimize power consumption of computers that are inactive; disabling power management conflicts with this objective.
Power management has been around for a long time; why is it causing problems now?

Hi,

I just realized that you posted a reply. Dev Exchange postings expire after two weeks, so I didn't get the notification for the reply.

You can always contact the technical support department directly at www.ni.com/ask.

I don't know the exact technical reasons that the CAN interfaces do not work after standby. It has to do, among other things, with the fact the the interface's firmware is stored in volatile memory. As described in this knowledge base article:

Why Does my NI-CAN Card Hang or Report Incorrect Data After My Computer Woke Up from a Power Save Mo...

This is something that R&D is working on.
