Dealing with Serial Ports on Macintosh

I keep having difficult dealing with the dynamic addressing of the Macintosh serial ports, which come up as "ASRL1::INSTR" etc.  I have dealt with this before using the NI-VISA Configuration utility and "static" port assignments.

I have been using various USB to RS-232 devices on laptops. The Mac has 2 ports assigned to "bluetooth" this and that. I have not found a reliable way to determine which "ASRL::INSTR" goes to which RS-232 connector. While personally, I can figure it out empirically, I have been buiding Applications for use with Runtime Engine where the people using it will be baffled.  And I will not have LabVIEW installed to make static assignments.

Anyone have any solutions?  Are the other utility programs out there that would work to figure out the port assignments?  Or is there a way to deal with this programmatically in LabVIEW?  I can't be the only one who has had this issue.
