Wow, this is certainly a very high honor!
To put things into perspective for our newer members, let me quickly summarize who Greg is:
From way back in the last century, Greg was the most active, most visible, and arguably the most helpful of all NI contributors (Yes, he’s actually blue, even if the name isn’t ;)). At first, Geg posted almost daily on the Info-LabVIEW mailing list, but later also in the developer exchange. His answers went way beyond superficial statements, but always provided detailed insight into the problems at hand. Sometimes he even lifted the hood a bit to let us glance at some aspects of the LabVIEW “engine” underneath. Long, well composed answers with detailed explanations were the norm. They were always a pleasure to read! Even the most complex topic seemed easy once Greg explained it. 🙂
I am sure most of the top contributors here became better LabVIEW programmers after being exposed to the “Teachings of Greg” over the years. I definitely owe a lot of my LabVIEW skills to him. 😄
Many years ago, I had the pleasure to meet Greg in person at one of the NI Days in Anaheim. He gave a talk about interface design, color schemes, and related issues. Greg is not only a great writer; he’s also a fantastic speaker! (I even got a LabVIEW T-shirt for answering a question… :)).
Greg, thanks for this thread. It is great to know that you are still around, probably working on much more interesting problems. We can take care of the simpler questions just fine here, but it would be great if you could return once in a while and point us in the right direction when we’re all lost. 🙂
Ben, thanks for all the friendship and for orchestrating this thread. Hopefully, we’ll meet in Austin this year. Yes, I strongly believe that a text based answer is not in the spirit of LabVIEW, so images and examples should be strongly encouraged.
Waldemar, Venice, Italy, is not quite the same as Venice, Ca. (I do have some Eurpoean background, though...). Like the Italian counterpart, we have some canals. Also have a look at the Live Venice Beach Cam. In case you’re in the area, stop by and I’ll fire up the BBQ.
To all, thanks for the all kind words. This is a great online community and I am proud to be part of it. The only reason I post here is the fact that LabVIEW is fun. Some people might do the crossword or chess problem in the newspaper, I’m looking for LabVIEW based puzzles right here. So keep’em coming! 😄 (I cannot increase my post count without questions, right?).
Keep wiring!
Christian
