Asking for VIs instead of jpg's lights a fuse that will blow-up our work with time

Hmm, it would be great if the CCT could autogenerate png files to show all cases of a structure, or even put it in a single png file, and it would look like a cartoon 🙂

Hey, and what about using pdf files for code sharing/representation, what do you think? Every mobile device can read and show pdf files, even my Kindle ebook reader. I would imagine that the CCT would generate a special pdf with dynamic links inside mimicking for example that you can switch through cases of an Event structure... hmm, maybe this is not too difficult using LATEX with hyperref package...i might make a demo test...Latex pdf generated by LV code (Miktex pack) and embedding snippets...

Hmm does this make sense? 🙂

I've tried that before (well as animated gif)... e.g. here.

However if we have structures (case, stacked seq, event, etc.) inside structures inside structures,  me might run into an explosion of the number of frames.

Well, the forum server could add a service that would automatically create a diagram image of attached VIs. But yes, a web based "viewer" containing everything needed to display the diagram interactively in the browser (no compiling or running) would be cool too.

Yes that would be cool! 🙂 NI, pls make a LabVIEW Viewer! 🙂

I haven't used the built-in print options for over a decade.  But, they do exist.

Sorry Block, you are asking for NI to make users aware of, and use, existing features.  Not new.

in nearly 10k posts, I've never really needed to ask the OP to "Print that vi and, attach the output!"  Maybe, if I had done that once or twice, a soloution could have been accepted sooner.  Printing vi's is not a feature I wish to promote.  But, @Blokk and CA, it exists.

VIViewer For Mobile devices would be a natural extension of printing "This vi. ".  But, nobody knows the feature exists or uses it.  Worse, the feature has been rarely used for 30 years!  I bet that my 8-Ball would say that there are likely to be bugs down there.

Haha, you are right, I just totally forgot about the printing option from "File" menu point. I just digged into its settings, there is even html option, and actually it is not that bad...But not useful either 🙂 It could be improved in a way that it would provide a kind of stand alone file with html functionalities (is it possible to embed the pngs into the html file, plus the VI itself??), where you can click on at least the structures "case switch" part. Would be much better than showing the separate cases as separate pictures...

Hey, we are in the BreakPoint board, so I just let it go: 2000 posts! 😄 It is a pity I did not reach this yesterday, when I had my birthday 😄

The CCT is open source. You're welcome to go ahead and add features if you think they would be useful.

Keep the following in mind:

  1. A working prototype for creating a navigable Flash version of a VI does exist (search LAVA for vipreview). Flash is no longer relevant, but it can give you ideas and HTML5 may be relevant.
  2. Any such mechanism would need to very simple to use by the end user (i.e. be at most as complicated as uploading a single file somewhere and posting the automatically generated embed code).
  3. Code for generating animated GIFs was uploaded to the forums quite a few years ago.
  4. I'm pretty sure there's an idea on the IE for bringing back the VI Viewer, and it's probably been rejected.

And my personal preference is almost always embedded images, but both is the best.
