I am still scratching my head about the definition of a "stand alone subVI". 😮 😄 (Is this similar to a toplevel subVI???)

A stand alone subVI is a very sad VI. It has no input wire and no output wire. It stands alone on the BD far away from the other VIs in the far left bottom corner. Normally so far away from the others that the BD is scrolled moving it out of sight. Noone sees it, noone wants to talk to it and noone hears it. Maybe that's the reason why you never noticed it.

Yeah..

I had a client whose code consisted of Stand Alone sub-VI's nested in multiple layers of Stacked Sequence Structures.

The S-S Structures span across 4 monitor sizes, so I had to scroll to find if there was something in an apparently empty sequence frame.

😞

that's when the eye problem started...

 

and as you said... no inputs or outputs.  they used Global Variables..
