Getting the most out of NIWeek 2009?

So... here's the deal. I go to NIWeek every year (barely got approval this year Smiley Wink). Sessions are almost always excellent. The keynotes are absolutly entertaining and informative.

I'm a lone internal developer at a company that uses LabVIEW, not a solutions provider or alliance member. Being a lone ranger, every year it seems that I'm out of place among my fellow wire-workers... I know I'm missing something; something that keeps the best coders in the world coming back each year.

What am I missing each previous year that would make NIWeek 2009 great?

Hmm... no replies... Let me clarify:

The technical content is good, but what do you all do for FUN during NI Week? Smiley Happy

Specifically; which after hours stuff/parties/Austin attractions are on your "Do not miss" list?

6th street is about a block away from the conference center with tons of music clubs.

Also have a look at page 5 of the preliminary program.

Monday 5:30-7:30pm: NIWeek Kickoff Happy Hour

Tuesday 5:00-7:30pm: NI Block Diagram party (followed by the Lava BBQ, see post above)

Wednesday 7:00-10:30pm: NIWeek Conference Party

If you have time, you should also walk down to the congress bridge at dusk and watch the largest urban bat colony take off for the evening dinner of insects.

Quite a spectacle!

I would also recommend simply come down to the "LabVIEW Zone" in the exhibition area and introduce yourself. Many of us will be there once in a while and groups might form with inpromptu evening plans.

This year I come with my wife and actually stay a few extra days so my options are a bit more limited, but I am sure there are many others in your situation. She came with me two years ago, and we did a lot of things, even a duck tour and visits to the state capitol and the Texas State History Museum.

Maybe we can start a thread of "Who's coming to NI week" shortly before August so we can start networking and share plans. 😄

Thanks altenbach.

I've considered the Lava group BBQ in the past... I may just have to check it out this year.

I'd completely forgotten about the bats, may even try to catch them each night... almost too neat to not see.
