I assume this if for the reason you mentioned, and because another enthusiast is more likely to recognize you on the street, then someone with an avatar that doesn't resemble themself. Altenbach has a good compromise and I may borrow his idea.

I look exactly like my avatar..
Some guy (Sciott something) took a photo of me... now I appear in EDN and other newspapers... 😞

I look exactly like I was in Avatar. The blue paint costs a fair bit to apply and maintain, but people are always very complimentary when I'm out on the town.
