I'm not from India but I'll keep watching your thread. I really did like the explanations from Vaibhav about names/culture/history. As I'm doing software, names/languages and the understanding of these is an aproach to see things differently (it is like if you're stuck with LV code, think about it how would I do it with state diagrams, text based scripting languages, OOP).And I think the same goes with human languages as well, I enjoy to have a small insight in several asian languages myself (but India being unknown so far).
Further down the road is also all the cultural/philosophical things. Insights into that field not only allows a better understanding/communication, but more it can lead to new pathes to tackel down everydays engineering challenges.
So, ignore my post and continue with your India-networking.

Hi Felix,
Welcome to the India thread. 😉
And I am glad that you liked to read those posts. I was not sure if non-indians would like it or not. But now I see your and tst's kudos, apart from the Indians' and Ben's.

You are absolutely right! To work better, especially in the Software and R&D fields, you need to think from many different perspectives. Knowing other cultures/languages is a great way to broaden the area and direction of thoughts and eventually leads to many solutions/innovations.
I am a researcher and I have lived in countries outside India, for long periods. This has been not just by chance, but by my desire to learn different cultures in-depth (something more than what you would read in a travel guide or in documentaries, though I like both of them, my everyday life is not less than a documentary). And this has helped me to further develop my ability to think broadly and with different perspectives. I was already open for this (new learning) and I was already thinking broadly and from other person's perspective, which is very much necessary. People, me and others, may have ability to think differently even without exploring other countries/cultures/languages, but that exploration surely makes a huge difference and advancement in the existing qualities of the person.
Feel free to throw in any question here, and one of us would help you in your new learning that you have just begun.

Hi,
Till date i was thinking MATHAN a non-indian!!!!
Mathan, you remember na i call you "MY RESCUER". I think i am right and i have a reason for that
i am in bangalore working with TATA. Firstly, you help me with my queries in LabVIEW (regularly), secondly you are in automated testing (same as me), and thirdly you know test stand (which i am planning to learn in my final semester of BTech), fourthly, i also havent taken any certification test but i am planning to take CLAD test in near fiture (same as you).
hahaha, this is great. I will surely keep in touch with you even after i finish my work here at TATA.
currently, you are in chennai, right?
And the good thing is, i am coming to chennai this weekend.
And the bad thing is, i will be in chennai just for a few hours, then will be leaving for my place in punjab

So, seems like Chennai companies use LabVIEW very much. Have you guys done your CLAD, CLD, CLA through your companies? I mean, do the encourage/sponsor you to do so?
There are more LV companies in Blore than in Chennai, but NI is putting much effort to make its presence there too. I think another 10 yrs, both these cities will become like twin cities as far as IT is concerned along with more LV & probably TS also.
I did my CLAD in Jan 2009 thro' my company TCS, on a training program our guys underwent in NI last year. Also, I ve given my CTD based on the same on Sep 11, 2009. Waiting for the result to be out soon...
Planning to do CLD by the start of next year & CLA by next year end...
