PaulG,
Thanks for the heads up. I live in NE Indiana and Cbus isn't that far away. May have to find an excuse for a weekend road trip.

If you are ever in Columbus, OH ... Since I only get back to Cbus about once a year I only manage to get to Schmidt's only once a year.
My wife and I went there this summer. If you like sausage, it is definately a good place to hit.

Thanks Republican House for giving our POTUS and the American people what we really wanted. Yea! We'll show them. Yea! Apparently that's what we do here now. ![]()

<Sarcasm>I'm just glad the result was a "balanced" approach.<\Sarcasm> And I'm using B's apparent definition of balanced being "my way or the highway" and "we can't cut our way to properity, so no spending cuts what so ever".

Incopitence, greed, and power ...
To my minds eye, these words explain the "why" behind what is happening in Washington.
Set sacrasm = true
WE can not toss states from the union but since DC is not a states...
Set sarcasm = false
My wife wants to toss all across the borad. A consitutional convention is "still within the rules of the game" and can be called by a bunch of fly-over states.
Items of buisness
1) Repeal the 17th and let states governments apoint senators. That will make the senators serve the states and not their own elections. THe House was also intended to be a "mob" so let it be (funny how the mob is the rational in our case).
2) Toss income tax. An 18% flat sales tax should cover the deal.
3) Refine the comers clause to keep big brother out all of the stuff where it was not given explicit powers (i.e. 9th and 10th).
4) Require congress be constrained by the same law as the rest of us.
5) Require a balanced budget in all cases except a war where soverign teritory is under attack. make the term "war" a legal term that speaks only of a physical attack. None of this "war on pverty drugs obesciety to justify violating the balnaced budget.
6) Make fire-arms a requirement of citizenship. Rather than police asking "do you have a gun?" the question should be "Where is your gun?".
7) Make illegal government unions and make "right to work" the law of the land.
😎 Mandate study of the constituion and the bill of right a requirment for high-school graduation. Ensure the first is understood as "Freedom OF religion" NOT "Freedom FROM religion". The lack of a moral standard in society has set us adrift in an amoral sea. Even if indivuals choose not to steer by the moral standard God brings to a socierty, at least there is a refence.
9) Require tha all laws be spelled out in full detail at the time of passage. None of this "Let the bureaucrats decide".
10) Prohibit the formation of caucuses with the houses of congress. They can associate as they choose outside congress but once in the building, they are non-partizen.
That is all that comes to mind this AM.
We have a wicked road ahead of us. Nothing is being done to fix the biggest problem (spending) and meanwhile the second ammendment is coming under fire with talks of assault weapons bans with NO Grandfather clauses!
While trying hard not to "Go Galt" I feel I am being forced to prepare as if I have no choice.
I would count myself a fool if I walked into the future knowing what I know but only to find myself unprepared when the time comes. To this end I have chosen to spend my free time learning to not depend on the luxuries provided by our opulent society. So look for me working on my solar/wind plant, tending my graden, or casting bullets.

Raise taxes on those making more than $400k and not make any spending cuts. I heard the deal will put us another hundreds of billions of dollars in debt in a single year (I don't remember the exact number, I heard it in a pass by conversation)

I'm not good with accounting, but the history of the US public debt (according to Wiki) shows an average increase of 1,000s of billions of dollars per year. To increase by just hundreds of billions this year is perhaps a sign of a reversing trend? Is this perhaps therefore a step in the right direction? I don't know, I'm just trying to make sense of the numbers - hundreds of billions of dollars is a LOT to imagine! I did once hear the analogy of a speeding freight - it takes time to slow to a stop before it can be reversed. Maybe the brakes are finally on?
