Ton - Im sure your aware that to bend the ball downwards you just put top spin on it like in table tennis. The double swerve thing I agree just breaks physical laws but I have seen it with my own eyes!

Shame hes not in our squad at the moment.
I used to play keeper (Sometimes central mid) and gloves were an option...untill strikers started getting better then they were mandatory. Nothing worse than a full on slap on the hand in freezing british weather to make the blood stop pumping! (yes im a softy).
Rugby was my game though and believe it or not I had less injuries playing rugby than football. You will often see proffessionals pull out of challenges cos theyre legs cost too much money to a their club / Insurance company, hence the flopping. Sunday league / Amatuer football is a different story though!
Anyways enjoy it while it lasts everyone.....Im thinking we could be heading home early at this rate!

Plan B is: Have a look at the Oranje team. They are doing a good job.

Hi Guenther,
there is a strange discussion going on in the Netherlands, we are playing like Germans (ugly play, no attack, just counters but winning) and the Germans are playing like the Dutch (Nice play, full field, but losing when it's important, EC 2008 for instance).
Strange is that Die Mannschaft is becoming quite popular here (which is historically a good thing!).
For more info read the 'Hiero and Daro' columns in the AD. (have your wife read it for you)

You are not kidding, Ton?
I like the idea to change the roles ... I am sure that you have already recognised that the NL is almost the only european team that is playing a successful WC when comparing it to the lots of poor performances (concerning strategy and success) that have been played so far.
BTW: My wife has voted the entire WC in advance. So far she has been successfully forecasting four results (exact results, not just the tendency)! And she is right in the last sixteen match Argentina vs Mexico.
I am somehow afraid of how much truth is in her vote. We will see.

If England can get over the "Hand of God" I think we can move past this (no)-goal. They have gotten over it, right?
At some point you have to start winning games, for the USA win-or-go-home starts one game early.
What has me worried, yet somewhat intrigued is the possibility of the England/USA tie-breaker coming down to a coin toss. That would be interesting. The caller should say "Hea-Tails". (oops, more tags coming).

Let's hope not!

Did she tip Australia for a win against Serbia?

Oh, Gascoigne, such a wasted talent.
I remember watching the (FA Final?) live when he sustained his career-ending injury.
Could have been one of the greats, but stopped playing much too early.
Shame really.
Shane.

Hi,
Everything around me is getting orange. That what is happening in The Netherlands with every soccer tournament since 1988.
I don't like soccer and I don't watch any match, but I still hear some buzzing in and around our house (my son watches every match)
Maybe this is a solution

You need to be patient until I am back home - in about 6 hours you will know...
