New CLD Exam Prep Guide, including list of possible exam scenarios

I wish I'd seen this before I took the exam yesterday. The 2012 version of the CLD prep guide is available. On the last page is a table showing the possible test scenarios.

I'm not sure if it would've made a big difference in my prep, but I think it would have been comforting to have had a vague sense of the set of possible scenarios, as opposed to worrying about basically any UI in the entire UNIVERSE being a possibility. If you're planning to take the CLD, definitely look at the new guide, I'm not sure if there are any other gems hidden in there.

  1. Coffee machine
The coffee machine simulates ingredient storage, and performs grinding, brewing and dispensing operations to prepare hot water, coffee and latte.

  2. Microwave oven
The microwave oven simulates manual or pre-configured staged, recipe based cooking.

  3. Security system
The multi-zoned security system simulates the arming, disarming, tamper, bypass and alarm functions.

  4. Thermostat
The thermostat simulates scheduled programmatic heating and cooling control for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system.

  5. Treadmill
The treadmill simulates manual or multi-staged program mode that controls speed, incline, time and tracks run time and distance.

  6. Vending machine
The vending machine simulates the storage, purchase, and dispensing of products using U.S. currency.

Good catch Mike.

I just took the CLD two days ago, and I just found your post here now. I think I did well regardless, but I was also warned by the proctor that the 2012 tests were different than before. I had practiced on the older exams such as the ATM, Car Wash, and Sprinkler.

In my opinion, these aren't that much harder as far as concepts go, there just seems to be more work to do on these new exams than the previous ones. So, the biggest thing is to keep practicing to make sure that you're able to make these in 4 hours!

Hi,

There are sample solutions for the sample tests.

The agreement that all certification candidates enter into prohibits discussing the particulars of any of these scenarios, or , of course, posting re-creations of the exams from memory.  So there will not be any examples posted for these scenarios.  Smiley Surprised
