Job Description
Job Title: Senior Test Automation Engineer
Reports To: Test Automation Manager
Department: Engineering
Primary Location: Illinois - Elmhurst
Job Summary and Scope of Responsibility:
The Senior Test Automation Engineer designs and sustains automated test equipment used in the verification and validation of Chamberlain new products. They are responsible for design and debug of hardware and writing test scripts in LabView, NI TestStand and other high level languages to ensure that Chamberlain products meet behavioral and performance specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead design and implementation of automated testers for verification of operators.
2. Develop tests in Labview, NI TestStand and other high level languages that provide coverage of all significant permutations of product behavior and validate all features.
3. Ensure test coverage of new and existing features.
4. Specify, qualify, debug, and maintain automated testers.
5. Diagnose hardware and software test failures during product testing .
6. Work with product teams to plan, design and implement test environments
7. Work with design engineers to coordinate releases to testing environment
8. Ensure effective change control is implemented on test hardware and software.
9. Qualify, validate, and establish reliability and reproducibility for the test equipment.
10. Advocate for testing, testing best practices, testing methodologies, and discipline!
11. Keeping abreast of latest testing tools, trends, and methodologies.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: A minimum of a BSEE, BSCS, or BSCE is required, however depending on the amount of experience in design and development areas and position guidelines, an equivalent degree in areas such as physics may be acceptable. A BSEET or Associate degree may also be considered depending on experience.
Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of engineering experience with at least four (4) years in software,firmware or test engineering.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Experience with compiled languages such as Java, C#.
• Hardware debugging skills.
• Experience with Labview.
• Proficiency with scripting languages such as Ruby or Python.
• Exposure to web technologies such as HTTP, HTML, CSS, and Javascript is a plus.
• Exposure to source control tools such as CVS, Subversion, etc.
• Exposure to CI tools such as Team City.
• Project management experience and MS Project experience a plus.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Expected to explain, present, and showcase concepts concerning Quality to Engineering teams.
• Lean Six Sigma experience and training a plus.
• Desire to learn those things if you don’t know them now.
Other: Ability to travel 15%, including international travel.
