Astronics PXIe-2461 sampling rate

In the specification, it states "Time Interval Measurement: 1248 readings per second max. under the following conditions: Input freq. > 10kHz".  Does this mean I will only sample about 1lHz and will miss a lot of pulses?  How about in averaging mode (100 samples averaging)?
