How do you read the state of counte lines?

To help troubleshoot the signal, I would like to display the state (Hi/Low) of the Aux and Gate lines
for each counter in the 6602 (event ctr0 which doesn't
have DIO mappings).

Is there a way to do this?

You have two options for this:
1) You have 8 DIO lines available in your board, so you can wire the pins for AUX and GATE to this DIO lines and read the state with the common DIO functions, the disadvantage here is the number of DIO lines that you can use for monitoring purposes.
2) Use an external device (ie oscilloscope) to monitor this pins.
