Measurement Explorer asks for a reboot every time I run it

Sheeesh....

Every time I run measurement and automation explorer and hit the "Devices and Interfaces" tree item I get a windows installer message saying "Please wait while Windows configures NI Measurement Automation Explorer 4.0" and then says I have to restart the system to make the changes take effect.

It does this EVERY TIME.

Moreover, every time it does this it plops the icon on the desktop, and creates a new program group (because I moved the original to a subdirectory so my start menu isn't cluttered).

Any ideas?

Pelesl,

That definitely is a strange issue and sounds like the install of the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) software was corrupted.  Couple things to try:

1.  Try repairing the MAX software.  Go to your computer's Control Panel>>Add/Remove Software>>National Instruments Software.  This will list all the NI software installed on your machine. Highlite Measurement and Automation Explorer and click the Repair button.

2.  If that doesn't work your best bet is to uninstall and reinstall the MAX software.  When you uninstall MAX all of the other NI drivers installed on your computer are uninstalled as well.  You will have to reinstall all your drivers along with the MAX software.  Also when reinstalling, make sure to have all the NI hardware out of the computer.

Post again if these don't fix this issue and we can try a few different things.

I have to pull out the hardware? This computer is rackmounted deep in an enclosure; I cut up my hands in all sorts of ways every time I have to get into it. I have always installed NIDAQ software with the card in there. Could this be the problem?

Ideally the hardware should be out of the computer when you are installing the drivers.  It is possible that this was the cause of the problem, but I don't think you would see it every time.  Something else you can do without having to remove the all your cards is to go to the Device manager on your computer and uninstall them there.  Do this after you have removed MAX and the drivers and right before you reboot your computer following the software reinstallation, and you should be alright.
