NI get the data from very Old Frequency Counter

Dear all

My project need to get the data from very old Frequency Counter. ( See in picture )

It is don't have the output port.

My question

1. Have the method or buy some Equipment for get the data from NI?

2. Advise new device for replace the old, can get the data and not expensive?

Please advise to me

If the counter does not have an output port, there is no easy way to get the results. I suppose you could put a camera in front of the instrument and use the Vision module to read the numeric display but that is a lot of work.

There are many DAQ devices which have counters to measure frequency.  What most of them do not have is the amplifiers and comparators that standalone counters have.

The questions come down to these: What frequency range are you measuring? What is the amplitude and waveform of your signal? How often do you need to take a reading? What are the accuracy and resolution requirements? What will you do with the data after you get it into the computer?

What frequency range are you measuring?

10MHz-1.3GHz 50Ω

What is the amplitude and waveform of your signal?

Now no need to use,

How often do you need to take a reading?

Sampling every lot in my production, ~100-200 lots per day.

(Now manual record to papers)

What are the accuracy and resolution requirements?

Not sure

What will you do with the data after you get it into the computer?

1. We have to check 9 point in 1 WIP, but I want to make sure, user to do from standard.

2. The result data I want to compare with Target, It is over target or not, keep OK,NG

3. The result data I want to summary daily, monthly report

Thank for advise

That looks to be an old Yokogawa FC863 but I can't dig up any info on it. Are there any multipin connectors on the back, can you post an image of the rear panel?

If this is for Production test, I would propose replacing it with a modern counter (Agilent, Keithly, Fluke for example) that has communications capability (RS-232, Ethernet, or GPIB).

You can also check NI's site for Instrument Drivers to see if there is one available for your proposed instrument selection. The driver will make you programming much easiser.

No ports apparent on teh rear panel of the device.

I suggest you compile you needs and specifications and contact some instrument manufactures and also your NI representative to determine what will suit your requirements.
