I have a DAQCard-AI-16XE-50 which has 2 counters but no Analog Triggers. I want to count the pulses from a magnetic pickup with a counter on the card. The mag pickup is counting flywheel teeth on an engine. The flywheel teeth are passing by at up to 10,000 per second. My problem is rooted in the fact that the output of the pickup is not TTL. The output is sinusoidal, and the output voltage increases with increasing engine speed. Additionally, the output voltage is a function of the proximity of the pickup to the flywheel. I want to use this in a testing scenario, where I will place the pickup in the flywheel housing of many engines. I don’t want to spend the time tweaking the location of the pickup to get my counter t
o work. I’ve done some preliminary testing of the pickup output. The range of peak-to-peak voltages of the pickup output appears to be 2Vp-p (at idle) to 10Vp-p (at full speed). A larger range wouldn’t surprise me.
I believe that I need an electronic device to condition the pickup’s output to a TTL signal, but I don’t know what to call it or where to get one.
