Using a 6602 for lidar receiver.

I am working on a Rayleigh lidar system and I would like to use a 6602 for counting photons. The electronics are set up in such a way as a single photon will produce a 5v pulse which can be counted by the system. I believed that buffered counting would be a possible solution. The lidar transmitts a pulse of laser light at 30 hz. I would like to read out the count rate every 100m or 667ns to a distance of 200km. I only get signal back from ~100km, but I need to measure the background also. I can use the lasers firing as a trigger to start the counter. If anybody can give me a hand with the labview for this I would appreciate it.

Hi Lidar,

I found a few LabVIEW examples online that may help you.

Reading a Sequence of Pulse Periods into a Buffer

Counting a Series of Edges and Storing them into a buffer

Circular Buffered Event Counting

Also, there are many examples that come shipped with LabVIEW. Look for buffered counter/timer.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I starting a similar project at the moment, we're using the 5154 digitizer, using the out going pulse to trigger the acquisition.  It may be able to offer help, but I'm probably slightly behind you on the learning curve.  Have you decided on a file format to store the LiDAR data ?

bmann2000,

have you seen the last posting date ... this topic is dead since 2004 and the original poster never logged in again ...

long shot I know, didn't realise you could see when user last logged in, have figured that out now.  I sometimes leave messages on dead threads if it's the only thread on a topic, or one of few.  Are you working on a LiDAR system ?
