strange encoder outputs

Hi everyone:

I am running some testers one of which is a sony linear encoder or scale. it has an A and a B channel and I am getting strange edge counts during some test panels and tasks in labview 8.2.  In one direction the A channel counts 1000 edges for 1 mm and only 500 on the way back, and B channel is reversed of A with it counting 500 in the first direction and 1000 going backwards.  The other sensor is a sony digital probe I am working with is a little harder to mess with because it is hard to move it precisely to correlate distances. But I am assuming they have to same thing going on.  Also I am haveing trouble with an infrared sensor on a different task that is giving me irregular frequencies during testing.  I am running it at 130 Hz and for the most part it is giving me that ouput but every about .2 second the frequency jumps to a much higher value like 600 Hz.  Some of these dont make any sense expecially since the maximum output for the sensor is 500 Hz.  Any ideas?

Hi AE876,

From what I understand from your previous post, you have a linear encoder, a digital probe, and a infrared sensor that are all not functioning correctly. I was wondering what hardware you have them connected to and how exactly they are being tested. I would also verify that everything is hooked up properly according to the manuals. For the encoder, you can also look at this article. The more information you can give, the better.
