Set the data reading configuration

Hi everyone,

When I am using accelerometers with a working range of -5V to +5V, I would like to know if I can set the data reading configuration in DaqExpress to a range of -1V to +1V in order to better visualize the data acquisition on the graph. This will not affect the sensor, correct? Or is it possible that by doing so, I am altering the working voltage of the accelerometer?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I tested this using a simulated NI-9218 module configured for an IEPE accelerometer (±5 V input range). In DAQExpress, you're right that you can't directly set a custom display range during acquisition — but after recording, you can zoom in on the graph using the mouse scroll wheel (see attached Screenshot 1). This doesn’t affect the sensor or signal; it just helps you visualize specific segments more clearly.

However, if you want more flexible graph visualization options, then I would suggest you to try the same task in FlexLogger, since it is suggested as a better replacement software for free. In FlexLogger you can easily configure the sensor's input signal range and the sensor sentivity(based on your acceleration measurement requirement) as seen in the second screenshot, and in doing so it will not affect your sensor nor the working voltage of the accelerometer. In the screen recording attached, you can see the raw voltage value of the corresponding acceleration value.

There is also a screen tab in FlexLogger which offers enhanced display options like high-speed graphs, alarms, and customizable screens. Happy to provide a short walkthrough if you’re exploring it for the first time!

Let me know if that helps or if you have further questions!

Thank you
