Google Drive not visible in Diadem Navigator tree structure

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi!

At our company we are using Google Apps. The Google Drive is a convenient tool to use for ensuring instant back-up of your files. My issue however is that I cannot find the Google Drive in the Navigator tree structure, at least not consistently. There has been occasions where the drive was visible but now I cannot find it anymore. The drive definately exists and is accessible in Windows Explorer. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to solve it (except avoid Google Drive as working area ;-)?

Hi jj77,

Can you create a Windows Explorer mapped drive to this Google drive?  When you see it in Windows Explorer, what does the URL field at the top show?

Hi Brad,

thanks for your interest in my question.

I have no problems creating a working link on the desktop, if that is what you meant.

The URL in the Windows Explorer top shows "C:\Users\Herman\RiPASSO GDrive\Google Drive".

One bit to the puzzle might be that when I open a command/prompt window and navigate down the file-structure, the folder RiPASSO GDrive where the Google Drive is situated, the "dir"-command won't show any names - empty. Well maybe not quite, it says that there exists two folders but no names shows up, and it should only be one folder - not two.

Although when I type in "cd Google Drive", I don't get any error-message and I get into the Google Drive. From here on all folders shows up as they ought to.

I guess that the file structure window in the Navigator for some reason don't get any names for the Google Drive as is the case in the command window. Anyhow, it's not that big of an issue for me anymore because if I use the "Load Data File"-button in the Navigator tab, the Google Drive shows up as it should - and this is how I solved my issue forthe time being. Annoying but working.

Hi hj77,

I was wondering if you could assign a mapped Windows drive letter in Windows Explorer to that Google location, such as X: or Z:

That might help both DIAdem and the dir command in DOS.

Hi Brad,

thanks for your suggestion, it worked out just fine.

But before I tested to add a new drive I was fiddling with different modes in the Navigator tab. I found out that in mode "Data store" using "My computer" as source (or root) the tree structure has no issue to display the Google Drive - works fine.

Up til' today, I didn't know there were two different display modes available I've always been using the "Data finder" mode. In the "Data finder" mode the Google Drive does not show up when you try to navigate down the local C-drive. In the "Data finder" mode the Google Drive is only accessible when you add it as a separate drive in Windows explorer.

So long story short, if you want to have a trouble-free easy access to your Google Drive in Diadem, add it as a separate drive in Windows Explorer.
