Importing ABF files

Solved!
Go to solution

When trying to open Axon files I get the following

Cannot load the file "C:\Users\Circuit\Desktop\CCF MUSIC\Patient 7\pt7smp3.abf" with the loader "Axon_ABF".

     Further information:
"Could not load the selected Axon_ABF file!
This file does not have OperationMode = 5 (Episodes)"
We do not use episodic files, so what can be done to fix this?

Hi Lapsus16,

I created the original import routines for Axon_ABF files and later ported them to the Axon_ABF DataPlugin that you're trying to use.  If you will please post the file(s) that cause(s) this error, then I will look into the root cause.  Hopefully all that is needed is a simple tweak to the DataPlugin.  If it is at all feasible, I hope to be able to send you back an updated DataPlugin that works with these files, which I would then also have posted to the www.ni.com/dataplugins web site.  It is possible, though, that the effort required may be prohibitive.  Here's hoping I can help...

This portal does not allow me to attach the file. Can I send another way?

Try ZIPing the file, that should allow you to attach the file. Apparently, the board software does only allow certain file extensions ...

If it doesn't work with a ZIP file, it may well be a size issue.

Please use this tfp site ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming

to post your data. The inbound FTP site can only be accessed by NI employees once the file is uploaded.

Please let us know when the file is uploaded, and what file name you used.

Thanks,

How do I upload to your ftp directory?

It should be as easy as simple dragging the file into your browser window once the browser is pointing the the FPT site.

These are the instructions out IT group has posted for uploads:

The customer should just open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to the site.  If the customer is using Internet Explorer, they will need to click "Page" then "Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer" to be able to upload.  If the customer is using Mozilla Firefox, they need the IE tab add-on to be able to upload files to the server.

If your customer is using a non-windows computer, have them log into ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming via an ftp client (such as fetch for OS X) input the user name as anonymous and the password as their email. Note: they must use the email tied to their support account.

For me, it was a simple drag&drop operation.

Hi Ronald,

I got your posted ABF file and was able to both reproduce your error with the existing Axon_ABF DataPlugin as well as tweak the DataPlugin to sidestep the error.  I now appear to be getting all the 15 million data values that are supposed to be in the data file imported into the Data Portal.  If you know what the channels are supposed to be called, and more importantly where that information is stored in the ABF file, do let me know.  For now I've just named them "Ch 1", "Ch 2", etc. for the case of non-sweep data.

Let me know how this works for you,
