TDM Excel Importer USI Exception 146

TDM Importer works fine on my laptop but the customer gets this dialog when importing the same TDMS file with the same version of Excel and the same version of the TDM Importer:

Anyone else seen this?

We originally saw the issue with current version (2012).  I just installed 2013 (provided by Brad during our last conversation) and the problem persists.

No NI software installed other than LabVIEW Run-Time and maybe Signal Express.

I've tried multiple kinds of TDMS files.  None work.  All work on my machine.  For an example, see my first post here, download abc.vi, and change the VI extension to TDMS.

We're both using MS Excel 2010.

This error code normally means that the addin wasn't able to load the tdms adapter.

I have no explanation why this happens.

Would it be possible to deinstall the excel addin and install/reinstall the new version at

P.S.: Is a logfile beneath the tdms file created at the customer machine?

I can try to uninstall and reinstall the plugin when the machine frees up.  There is no log file created beside the TDMS file after the error occurs.  Thanks for the support.

Can you additionally check if it is a 64 bit Excel version. (File->Help : contains version number including 64bit info).

Can both machines load tdm files instead of tdms files.

I'm afraid I'm going to hose somethign if I try to un-install.  Could you attach a screen shot with the item(s) highlighted that you'd like me to uninstall?

I append a TDM example file as well. The error message would lead me to the assumtion that the TDM file will load fine.

The installer of the excel addin is independent of all other NI products.

To uninstall it

• go to Microsoft sofware center to deinstall software
• choose "National Instruments Software"
• don't be afraid it will ot delete all NI software but will offer a select dialog where you can choose the TDM excel addin.
• Maybe you can try to repai instead of reinstall

Some additional info:

If the machine contains additional NI software that contains NI USI this could have influence on the excel addin.

The addin has a stand alone mode but if it detects a newer version of NI USI it will make use of this infrastructure.

So installing of an actual evaluation version e.g. NI DIAdem will potentially also repair the excel addin.
