TDM Importer Error 313

I am using the TDM Importer Addin with Excel 2007, and when I try to import from certain TDMS files, I get the following error message:

TDM Importer

USI encountered an exception: (313):Bulk::GetValues failed for attribute

Any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin,

Can you post one of the TDMS files that causes this problem so we can try and reproduce it on our end?

Thanks,

Hi Justin,

Are those misbehaving TDMS files by any chance being created by a Beta version of DIAdem or LabVIEW?  The upcoming DIAdem and LabVIEW versions will by default create TDMS 2.0 data files, and existing applcations will need to update their TDMS capability (for free)  to be able to read TDMS 2.0 files.

Otherwise, we'll need to the file to see what's going on,

Hi Brad,

The files were all created with Labview 8.6.

I have posted a copy one of the problem files at http://www.personal.psu.edu/jml511/documents/2009/TDMSFile.zip

Regards,

Justin,

Thanks for posting that TDMS file.  I was able to import this into Excel 2007 on my end, so the file itself is fine.

First, what version of the TDM Importer do you have?  I am using version 2.0.1.14, which is the latest version, which can be downloaded here: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/2944

Also, this TDMS file has more rows than Excel 2007 can display (the max in Excel 2007 is a little more than 1,000,000 , and this file has 44,000,000 rows), so it prompts for a start index.  I started at 1.  Do you get this prompt, or does the error appear before?  If you get the prompt, what index do you start at?

Finally, since this is a large file, there may be a memory issue.  When you are running the importer, how much available physical memory do you have?  You can check by opening the Task Manager and looking at the Performance tab under Physical Memory next to Available.  When running, I had more than 700 MB of physical memory available.

10Things,

No, there was no resolution with the previous poster.  Whenever you get this problem, does it just fail for one file over and over, or does it fail for any file but just for a period of time?  Also, can you post your TDMS file to our FTP site so we can take a look at it and try to import on our end?  You can post files via FTP to ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming using a Windows Explorer window.  This site is write-only, so only NI employees can download the file once you've uploaded it.
