applying DataFinder to incomplete meta data

Im using the LabVIEW DataFinder Toolbox and I came across a weird problem with the OR operation. I want to find all files where propety1 equals some value1 OR property2 equals some value2. So I created the queries property1= value1 and propery2= value2 and merges them by OR. Note that in most files either propety1 or propety2 is defined, i.e. there are only a few files where BOTH propeties are defined. When I excecute the query DataFinder ignores all files that do define only one property, i.e. most of the files I am looking for are excluded. Is there any way to extend the OR query to incomplete meta data?

Hey!

There is a bug in the current datafinder implementation, which filters out all files/channels that do not define BOTH properties. This is obviously not the desired functionality as it greatly restricts what is possible to find through the query.

It is known to the developers and is being worked on. Unfortunately, I don't have any further information on when a fix or the next version will be provided. At the moment, you will have to do two seperate searches and merge them manually.

thanks for the info. Unfortunately, the OR query is just a part of a more complex query. Implementing the whole query manually is no option. I guess I have to wait for some fix.

Thank you for reporting this bug in the DataFinder.  R&D has reproduced the incorrect behavior and is actively pursuing eliminating the problem for the next build of DIAdem, the DataFinder Server Edition, and the LabVIEW DataFinder Toolkit.  With a little luck we may be able to issue the fixed version of the DataFinder in the Beta2 of the LabVIEW DataFinder Toolkit.  If you're not a LabVIEW Beta tester, then you could instead install the DIAdem 2010 Beta in early April 2010-- that would update your DataFinder with a version that has the fix in it, so that your existing LabVIEW 2009 DataFinder Toolkit would have the correct OR query behavior.

Yesterday R&D pledged to look into this, and today I heard that they have found and fixed the problem.  I'm not sure when the next LabVIEW Beta is, but the DIAdem 2010 Beta is scheduled for the middle of April.

Brad, we just ran into a curious problem with the OR operator in Datafinder that bears a vague similarity to the problem discussed in this thread.  We are using DIAdem 11.1 (11.1.0f3806) with Datafinder 2.1.0f3805 and I was wondering if the fix you mentioned made it into this release?  Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Nope, the fixes made in the Spring of 2010 made it into the DIAdem 2010 and DataFinder 2010 versions that released at the end of July.  DIAdem 11.1 and DataFinder 2.1 were effectively the 2009 versions of those products, respectively.  I checked with the developers to make sure, and unfortunately the DIAdem 11.1 SP1 does not contain this fix.
