how many curves can be plot on one 2D graph in DIAdem

Solved!

Hi everyone,

I want to  plot some(360+) curves on one 2D graph.I have results for samples which are measured at different temperatures.I had no problems to plot the curves of all devices for one temperature. But what I noticed when I tried to plot curves of all devices for all temperatures is that it doesn't work.DIAdem (ver.10.2) gives an error if the number of curves is more than 250,how can this be?Is this a program limititaion which can be fixed with a patch or service pack, or I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance

Hi fscommand,

As of DIAdem 11.1, the maximum number of curves on a given graph in either VIEW or REPORT is indeed 250.  This has been the case for many years now.  This restriction may disappear in future DIAdem versions, but I do not expect it to disappear in the 2010 time frame.

The workaround is to overlay 2 graphs, one on top of each other.

Hi Brad,

unfortunatelly, that is exactly what I've suspected Smiley Sad

Thanks for your advice with overlaying the graphs , I'll try that.

Have a nice evening

Hello fscommand,

When you overlay the axis systems, make sure to turn of the colors for the axes, labels and ticks on the 2nd axis system. You can exactly align them in the "position" tab of the "Axis and curve definition" dialog.

You only need to set this up once for every 250 overlayed curves, so it should be a relatively quick and painless effort.

Let us know if you have any additional questions,

Hi fscommand,

One final thought on this.  You might consider using a 3D plot in the waterfall display-- especially if the 300+ curves were each taken at a different set value or time or frequency range, etc.-- then they would display at the correct location along that set value / time / frequency axis.

perhaps brad could provide a script to add another transparent graph but links scaling to first.

Just revisiting this post... Is the 250 curves/graph limitation still present in DIAdem 2017? Is creating a transparent overlay graph still the best solution for > 250 plots on the Y Axis.

Note: we are just trying to obtain an image of the waveforms, not actually use the graph to read off values. A better solution would be something similar to the Labview "Picture Plots".

Hi Bilby,

I just checked with DIAdem 2017.  The answer to both questions is Yes.  No improvements of either type have been made to REPORT up to and including DIAdem 2017.

Hi Brad,

Question on you suggestion about "waterfall display". Loading >250  Z axis matrices into a waterfall display and displaying an "XZ" view appears promising.

Is there a way to make each waterfall curve transparent? i.e. currently each waterfall curve obscures the curves behind it.

Regards,

Tom

Ignore my previous post.

Just realised waterfall plot doesn't give any advantages for >250 plots. The earlier post regarding overlaying multiple plots exactly on top of each other and setting the axis etc to "no color" appears to be the only solution when plotting multiple plots > 250.
