For posterity, it might be helpful to take a look at our Generic Networking modules. Either to just use them (hey, open-source!) or to look what they do and take a little inspiration...

I second the use of Generic Networking Module. I am using it on a cRIO, and I am planning on adding it to a RPi solution I will be working on in the coming weeks. 

I have a custom piece of equipment that has a UI screen for manual control with remote control on a PC VIA the Generic Networking Module
