Device Monitor shows wrong device after installation - no device shown in MAX

I installed a PCI-6518 board in my development system on Friday and experienced the following:
Device shows up correctly in Device Manager (XP SP2), no problems detected
NI Device Monitor detects a new device, but identifies it as an NI-USB 6008
In MAX, no devices are listed at all, and no NI-6518 can be added (unless it's simulated, of course)

I've tried moving it to another PCI slot, but the same thing happens.

The software is the most recent available, and this board worked fine in another computer the day before.  Any suggestions?

Hi Josh,

That is very strange behavior that you are seeing.  I have a few more questions about your system:

1.)  In the Windows device manager, is the PCI-6518 listed under the "Data Acqusition Devices" heading?
2.)  What is the make/model of the system that is having the installation problem, and is it different than that of the working system?
3.)  Did the computer that the board worked in also have NI-DAQmx 8.3 installed?

As an additional note, this may require an uninstall/reinstall of the DAQmx drivers (if you have not already attempted this) as it is possible that a driver corruption may have occured.

Andrew,

Thanks for the reply.  To answer your questions:
    1.  The card does show correctly in Device Manager (as a Data Acquisition Device)
    2.  The make/model of the computer that is working is a generic single-core Dell computer.  The one I am having trouble with is a custom job, but nothing particularly odd (Asus motherboard with nForce 4 chipset, AMD dual-core processor).  Both run XP Pro and a similar set of software.
    3.  Both have the same version of DAQmx (8.3).

I'm removing the NI software now and will try reinstalling it.  I agree that it seems like something is either not installed correctly, or was corrupted - it doesn't seem to be hardware related unless there is some kind of hardware conflict going on.  Hopefully the reinstall will work.  I'll post again with the results.

Thanks again,

Josh

Hi Josh,

The NI PCI-6518 requires +5 V and +3.3 V supplies from the PCI bus.  It is possible that the motherboard in your system does not supply the +3.3 V required for the device to work properly.  For this reason, the board may be detected by Windows but the functionality of the board will not be available, and as a consequence you won't be able to see it in MAX.  Verify the specifications of your Asus motherboard to ensure that it supplies +3.3 V to the PCI bus.

Andrew
