I'm not sure why you posted to the digital I/O board and not the Instrument Control one but have you tried using the shipping examples for serial communication? Have you been able to communicate with the instrument with Hyperterminal?
Unless someone posts back with having some experience this instrument, you'll need to provide some additional information. For example, details on what is an AK Interface, what commands you are sending, how you are sending them, what errors you get, etc.

As Dennis suggested, try to communicate with the instrument using Hyperterminal and also with the LabVIEW shipping examples such as Basic Serial Read and Write. There is no instrument driver available from idnet.
You will likely be using NI-VISA to send commands listed in the User Manual of the device to communicate with the instrument. The Basic Serial Read and Write example VI uses NI-VISA and is a great place to start.

Sorry about it, I was looking something information and I didn't see where I was, so that I put in the digital I/O so I made a miskate.
I am trying that, I am with AVL 415 Smoke Meter and AVL 4210 Instrument Controller.
I have tried using the examples for serial communication, but it doesn't answer me anything.
Do you know which command I have to send by serial it just to see if it's working?
Could you help me?
Best regard
Kelbert

The commands should be documented in the manual. There should also be some basic information on how to verify communication.
Again, I would strongly recomend you use something like Hyperterminal before trying any programming. Before doing any programming, you have to verify the com port settings and that you are using the correct type of serial cable (there are two generic types). If you have problems, you can discuss them with the vendor. Every vendor should understand Hyperterminal and can walk you through. Many will have never heard of LabVIEW.

Hi Kerbert,
I read through your previous discussion about AVL Smoke meter. I need your help to make my Labview Code works. I send the command through RS232 but hasn't got any response from the Smoke Meter. However, it working with terminal software.
Do we need to use different cable for X1 and X2. On manual, we need to use X1for PC and X2 for AVL 4120 controller.
Thanks
Nick
