How to connect and measure from an NPN inductive sensor on NI-9422

Hi,

I'm new to data aquisition and have just recieved a C-Rio with a 9422-module. I've tried to use both sinking and sourcing inductive sensors but I don't get any response when I connect the sinking one (3-wire). I'm not sure if I have connected it the right way though. How should the leads be connected (+, earth and "signal") and is there any settings I should do on the 9422 to make it sourcing?

Hello,

Please look at page 10 of the NI 9422 datasheet as it shows typical connection of a sinking sensor. It seems to indicate you need an external voltage source of between 11-60V, the exact voltage will depend on the specification of your inductive sensor. Page 7 has the wiring diagram of the 9422 for your reference.
