How to control the separate pins of a dsub 9 contact?

Does this mean that you give up !!!  Smiley Wink

There is always the solution possiblity with a cheap USB device. It all depends how much money you want/can spend.

By no means 🙂 It just means that I don't think I will spend a lot of time figuring out how to connect my pump to the DSUB9 contact without any intermediate electronics!

Why do you want to connect it to the DSUB9 connector of your PC??? Only reason might be the equal number of pins... But be warned: most cables with DSUB9 connectors on either end do NOT have a straight 1:1 connection - most of them are designed to be used with the RS232 interface and for certain purposes some of the control lines are "crossed", i.e. are on different pins on the ends of the cabels. I think you might save a LOT of hands-on and brain work using the printer port. Break-out boxes with terminals are readily available, you do not need any electronics for level translation(well, a simple buffer circuit like the 74LS245 might be needed but that's very straightforward).
