How to use 6518

     Hi all...
     Good morning..

I just install  my PCI 6518 board,  I can see the device on  MAX, it pass self test, but when
I try to read a port 0,1,2,3 using LabVIEW 7.1.  I get an error that says my device is not a
NI board,    I'using  "read from digital port"  (device 1, port 0).  I use before other board and
have no problem,  maybe this 6518  its different.

I just want to read 12 input signal from sensor and drive 4 outputs  (24VDC)

      Best Regards.
      Reynaldo Lima V.  🙂

       I'll appreciate your help...

That's a traditional DAQ function and you need to use the newer DAQmx driver. You should have gotten DAQmx with the device and with your LabVIEW 7.1 distribution. You can download the latest from here.

      Hi  Dennis.

I got the software with the DAQ,  I installed, then reebot the PC, and I still getting the same error message.  Do I need to confugure the board? (don't think so)  I have sinking and sourcing ports on the 6518,

I install LabVIEW 7.1 and the software I got with the card is 8.20 but it will still support 7.1

I had long time using labVIEW  and several boards,  I know this a traditional board should work as other  boards,

     Regards.

You will get this error forever if you keep using Read From Digital Port. As I said before, that function interfaces to the traditional DAQ driver and the PCI-6518 is only supported by DAQmx - see here. This is a fairly new board and is not "traditional". The latest version of traditional DAQ is 7.4.1 so the 8.2 version of the driver you got has to be DAQmx. Open the example finder and look at the the DAQmx examples.
