In the 654x and 655x Series pinouts. Are the Grounds Matched to a DIO?

Are the GND pins and DIO Pins paired together in the DDC Connector?  Please Explain.

Through the cable they are isolated and matched to a DIO.  When they get to the hardware, they get bussed together (on the 653x, 654x, 655x, and the accessories (2162, 2163, and cable adapter)).
