Overcurrent protection for PC-DIO-96

I want to use a PC-DIO-96 (and later PCI-DIO-96 boards) board for a home automation system. When we build input and output modules, what would we need to include to prevent overdriving or oversourcing the I/O lines of the board? I'm assuming it's common to put a current limiting resistor either inline with the signal, or a 12k or so pull up resistor to 12V for this. Am I on track here?

Hi,

The manual of the PCI-DIO-96 gives related information on page 3-6. Also, check the following knowledgebase "What is the maximum drive current of the digital lines of a DIO-24 or DIO-96 board?"

Regards,
Ramzi.

Hey RamziH

Perhaps I misstated the question. I'm aware of the current limits on the I/O lines, I was wondering what the standard practice was in ensuring those limits aren't exceeded.

Thanks.
