PCI-6514 and Windows 11

Hi everyone,

I have a PCI-6514 that works great on Windows 10, but because of a Windows 11 upgrade I have to replace the PC since it won't work on Windows 11. It looks difficult to find a tower PC with a PCI slot because most now have only PCIe slots. Has anyone else faced the same issue, and what make/model did you buy?

Thanks

what do you actually use it for? do you fully utilize the features to need an exact or better replacement or okay to compromise some features like number of channels, voltage range etc.,?

Hi UC85,

Fortunately the PCI-6514 is still being supported by the latest versions of NI-DAQmx, so you'll be able to run it on Windows 11 PCs.  However, as you know, it's very hard to find new consumer PC with both Windows 11 and PCI slots.  We recently came across the same problem.  You can try buying an industrial PC from Advantech or Adlink, they have IPCs with Win11 and PCI slots.

Also, if your Win10 PC is not too old, another approach is to force Win11 installation on this PC.  There are many guides online that tell you how to do it, you have to change registry keys, etc.  It's possible, but a little tedious.

Lastly, if you are being forced to upgrade to Win11 because of Win10 end of support, remember that MS is extending support for Win10 until 2026 for free.  See here for details:
